Shocking

...to have only posted 15 entries (including this one!) throughout my first year. With May here, a mere month is left of my time in Aber before I go back home.
So much has happened, in fact, too much to write about.
University life is still as enjoyable as ever, the housing situation for next year promising, my provisional registration for second year done, my academic achievements satisfactory.
I went to see Lone Twin perform the Catastrophe Trilogy last Monday...interesting. Some good stuff, some horrendous stuff, but then again they might just explore the idea of failure on stage. Which doesn't make it better to watch but it does give you a lot more to write about in essays. ;-)
Yesterday saw the 13th annual Corbin awards for student media. I was invited to come along. It was great fun and my lovely housemate Alistair won "Contribution of the Year" which understandibly makes him quite proud.
I will finish shooting a third-year film later today, my role the enstranged girlfriend of a football hooligan. Fun times! I'll have to get myself ready to cry my heart out since everyone knows: such things can't end well. ^^

Schockierend in meinem ganzen ersten Jahr nur 15 Einträge gepostet zu haben (und das schließt diesen hier ja ein!). Nachdem es jetzt ja Mai ist bleibt noch ein Monat in Aber bis ich dann wieder nach Hause gehe.
So viel ist passiert, eigentlich schon zu viel, um darüber zu schreiben.
Das Leben an der Uni ist nach wie vor erfreulich, die Wohnsituation für nächstes Jahr vielversprechend, meine vorläufige Registrierung fürs zweite Jahr fertig, meine akademische Leistung zufriedenstellend.
Letzten Montag sah ich Lone Twin ihre Catastrophy Trilogy aufführen...interessant. Manches war gut, manches war grauenhaft, aber dann wiederum könnten sie ja mit der Idee des Versagens auf der Bühne arbeiten. Was es nicht besser macht, aber es gibt einem mehr zu schreiben. ;-P
Gestern waren die 13ten jährlichen Corbin Awards für Studentenmedien. Ich wurde eingeladen, mit zu kommen. Es war sehr schön und mein Mitbewohner Alistair bekam den Preis für den Beitrag des Jahres und ist verdientermaßen stolz.
Heute werde ich dann die letzten beiden Szenen eines Drittjahresfilms abschließen, ich spiele die entfremdete Freundin eines Fußballhooligans. Das wird ein Spaß! Ich werde mich darauf vorbereiten müssen, mir die Augen auszuweinen, denn wie alle wissen, kann so eine Geschichte ja nicht gut enden. ^^

Going back - Zurückgehen

Going back to Britain seems the last thing one should do these days, especially this weekend. Although I'd say that after three weeks of constant snow they should have gotten used to it, shouldn't they?
Another thing is packing. How often have you had the problem: you pack, you weigh, you shift things, you weigh again, you ponder, you throw something out, you weigh again, you put something else in, you weigh, you ponder, etc..?
However, bad traveling conditions and stupid weight limitations aside, I had amazing holidays, lovely christmas and a great new year and am also looking forward to going back to Aber. Which is sort of snowed in. Whopee! ^^
I know I am writing sporadically at best, but hey, I have a busy life! ;-P

Nach Großbritannien zurück zu reisen ist so ziemlich das Letzte, was man dieser tage tun sollte, schon gar nicht an diesem Wochenende. Obwohl ich ja sagen würde, dass sie nach drei Wochen konstanten Schneefalls ja wohl langsam dran gewöhnt sein sollten, oder nicht?
Noch so eine Sache ist das Packen. Wie oft hattet ihr schon das Problem: ihr packt, wiegt, packt um, wiegt wieder, ihr denkt, nehmt ein paar Sachen raus, wiegt wieder, tut ein paar Sachen rein, wiegt wieder, denkt wieder nach, etc..?
Schlechtes Wetter und blöde Gewichtsbestimmungen für das Gepäck mal beiseite, ich hatte traumhafte Ferien, tolle Weihnachten und einen guten Start ins neue Jahr und freue mich schon wieder sehr, nach Aberystwyth zu kommen. Was im Moment etwas eingeschneit ist. Juhu! ^^
Ich weiß, ich schreibe bestenfalls sporadisch, aber ich habe ein vielbeschäftigtes Leben! ;-P

Christmas - Weihnachten

I know, I know, I'm lazy and forgetful.
I have been extremely busy, setting up my two presentation exams (of which one went okay and the other was brilliant), writing my essays and just living generally.
It's freezing now but we still get lovely sunny days in between the torrents of rain. ^^
I went to see If We Go On by Vincent Dance Company and it was stunning. 2/3rds into the play, the building had a power cut but it seemed as if it was part of the play and they improvised brilliantly. I was especially amazed at one guy playing the cello...as a cello, a blues guitar and base guitar. Breathtaking.
I have also been introduced to DV8, a British dance group beyond desription, do have a look at their website.
Finally, I talked to a girl on my course, Faith, and she gave me her business card, if you need a lighting designer, contact her on www.fs-services.co.uk, she's lovely and her scenography presentation was very good.
Christmas dinners were also partially why I wasn't writing here (I couldn't get up the stairs anymore ;-P)...our house dinner consisted of turkey with apple and bread stuffing, savoy cabbage, German red cabbage (home made!), roast onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnips and carrots, a vegetarian pumpkin and feta cheese dish (one of my housemates is vegetarian), gravy (normal and veggie), bread sauce, cheese mash (try that!), extra veggie thyme, onion and rosemary stuffing, and a Bailey's cheese cake for dessert. We are still living off the left overs and it's been three days since. ^^
I'll be going back home via Stansted on Saturday/Sunday, the journey is an ordeal, but I am looking forward to Germany a lot: the taste of the tap water (yes, really. ^^), snow, German bread, German chocolate, my Mum's home made Christmas cookies....ah, home, sweet home!

Ich weiß, ich weiß, ich bin faul und vergesslich.
Ich war extrem beschäftigt mit der Vorbereitung meiner beiden Präsentationen (eine war okay, die andere brilliant), mit Aufsatzschreiben und dem Leben generell.
Es ist unglaublich kalt, aber wir haben immer noch sonnige Tage zwischen strömendem Regen. ^^
Ich sah If We go On von der Vincent Dance Company, eine unglaubliche Performance. Zwei Drittel im Verlauf hatten wir einen Strumausfall, aber es schien, als wäre das Teil der Aufführung und sie improvisierten genial. Ich staunte besonders über einen der Tänzer, der ein Cello als Cello, Blues Gitarre und Bass spielte. Atemberaubend.
Mir wurde auch DV8 gezeigt, eine britische Tanzgruppe, die unbeschreblich sind, schaut euch ihre Website an.
Zu guter Letzt hatte ich eine Unterhaltung mit einem Mädchen aus meinem Kurs, Faith, und sie gab mir ihre Karte, wenn jemand einen Lichtdesigner braucht, kontaktiert sie über ihre Seite www.fs-services.co.uk, sie ist liebenswürdig und ihre Szenographiepräsentation war sehr gut.
Weihnachtsessen waren ein weiterer Grund, warum ich nicht schrieb (ich kam einfach nicht mehr die Treppe rauf ^^)...unser Hausessen bestand aus Truthahn mit Apfel-Brot-Füllung, Savoy Kohl und Rotkraut (selbstgemacht!), gerösteten Zwiebeln, Kartoffel, Süßkartoffeln, Pastinaken und Karotten, einem vegetarischen Kürbis-Feta-Gericht (meine eine Mitbewohnerin ist Vegetarierin), beiderlei Soßen (normal und vegetarisch), Brotsoße, Käse-Kartoffelpüree (ausprobieren!), extra vegetarische Thymian-Zwiebel-Rosmarin Füllung und einem Bailey's Käsekuchen. Es ist drei Tage her und wir leben immer noch von Resten. ^^
Ich reise am Samstag/Sonntag via Stansted nach Hause, die Reise ist eine Qual, aber ich freue mich außerordentlich auf Deutschland: der Geschmack des Leitungswassers (ehrlich!^^),Schnee, deutsches Brot, deutsche Schokolade, die selbstgemachten Weihnachtskekse meine Mutter...ah, home, sweet home!
Fröhliche Weihnachten an alle und ein gutes neues Jahr!
Oder, wie die Waliser sagen: *Määääääh* (Vergebt mir, sie sind toll, aber der Walisische Ausdruck für Frohe Weihnachten ist unaussprechbar ^^)

Weekend - Wochenende

Another weekend is here and like for the last days it alternates between pouring rain and pouring rain and squalls. Funnily enough, this suits me just fine as it provides a nice backdrop for all the research work I will have to do during reading week next week. Additionally, it provides me with nice soundscapes I will record and use in my next scenography workshop. The following picture is the view from my room, taken in that one minute when the sun came through:



For my Text Workshop presentation, I looked deeper into Butoh dance (a form of very disturbing, intensive, extremely physical dance developed in Japan after World War II), I heartly recommend to have a look at the Swiss Butoh dancer Imre Thormann, either search him on youtube or go to www.bodytaster.com. It is strange yet fascinating!
You might also consider Janet Cardiff's 'Opera For A Small Room' and the works of Hotel Pro Forma (www.hotelproforma.dk)...just as suggestions.

Ein weiteres Wochenende ist hier und wie schon die letzten paar Tage wechseln sich strömender Regen und strömender Regen mit Sturmböen ab. Lustigerweise ist mir das grade recht, da es einen guten Hintergrund zu all den Nachforschungen bildet, die ich die nächste Woche während Reading Week machen muss. Zusätzlich gibt es mir schöne Lautlandschaften, die ich für meinen nächsten Szenographie Workshop aufnehmen werde. Das Bild ist der Blick aus meinem Fenster in der einen Minute als die Sonne durchbrach.
Für meine Text Workshop Präsentation habe ich mich mehr mit Butoh Tanz beschäftigt (eine Form von Tanz, die sehr verstörend, intensiv und extrem physisch ist und nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg in Japan entwickelt wurde), ich empfehle sehr, einen Blick auf den Schweizer Butoh-Tänzer Imre Thormann zu werfen, entweder über youtube oder auf www.bodytaster.com. Es ist seltsam, aber faszinierend!
Janet Cardiffs "Opera For A Small Room" und die Arbeiten von Hotel Pro Forma (www.hotelproforma.dk) sind auch sehenswert...nur so als Vorschlag.

Halloween and all that jazz - Halloween und all sowas

I know it's been quite a while...shame on me.
Yesterday saw our long awaited halloween party that was an absolute success. I think we have enough cake and crisps left to the end of the term at least. Additionally, I will be priviliged in getting a family receipe for an amazing vegetable curry that someone brought yesterday. I also got a six layer sponge cake from a friend because I proof read her essay at 9 in the morning of the deadline day. I'll certainly proof read again! ^^
A friend and I also went to see The Idiot Colony yesterday, a compelling, disturbing, beautiful and utterly breathtaking play by Red Cape Theatre. It sort of killed the party mood but it was definitely worth it.
Today it has started raining, autumn is here at last.
I am still enjoying myself hugely, my first essay was handed in last week and the assessment for my Text Workshop will begin soon.

Der letzte Post ist eine ganze Weile her, ich weiß, Asche auf mein Haupt.
Gestern war endlich unsere lang ersehnte Halloweenparty, die ein voller Erfolg wurde. Ich glaube, wir haben genug Kuchen und Chips bis mindestens zum Ende des Semesters. Zusätzlich wird mir das Privileg zuteil, ein Familienrezept für ein Gemüsecurry zu bekommen, das jemand zur Party gebracht hatte. Ich bekam auch einen sechslagigen Kuchen, da ich den Aufsatz einer Freundin um 9 morgens am Tag der Deadline Korrektur las. Ich werde definitiv wieder Korrektur lesen! ^^
Eine Freundin und ich sahen gestern The Idiot Colony, ein unwiderstehliches, verstörendes, schönes und atemberaubendes Theaterstück von Red Cape Theatre. Es zerstörte die Feierstimmung so ziemlich ganz, aber das war es auf jeden Fall wert.
Heute hat der Regen begonnen, es ist Herbst.
Ich habe immer noch viel Spaß, mein erster Aufsatz wurde letzte Woche eingereicht und die Bewertung für den Text Workshop beginnt demnächst.

Update

Since I am having such a great time that I am forgetting how long I have actually been here, I kept this post's title simple. ^^
I am enjoying my course hugely (Scenography and Theatre Design & Drama and Theatre Studies...probably the longest possible title for a course). It consists of a lecture, three seminars and a viewing per week and I am having the best time. In the lectures, of course, the participation is limited to listening, but the rest is quite interactive and it is fascinating to gain insight in to other people's minds in relation to drama, theatre, performance and scenography. (Scenography being set, light, sound, costume and what have you)
I especially enjoy scenography and based on last week's viewing I highly recommend anyone interested in light art to have a look at the American artist James Turrell, he is amazing! Especially his 'spyspaces' are of magical beauty.
I have not yet managed to get up on Constitution Hill but who knows, maybe next weekend?
Finally, I have found someone in my course (who incidentally fences as well) who will join me in my quest for a choir because I feel the need to sing and I really think my housemates might appreciate me doing it somewhere else but the kitchen. ^^
Oh, and the weather is still lovely! (Can someone pinch me, I must be dreaming...)

Da ich so eine wunderbare Zeit verlebe, dass ich vergesse, wie lange ich schon hier bin, habe ich den Titel bewusst einfach gehalten. ^^
Ich genieße meinen Kurs enorm (Scenography and Theatre Design & Drama and Theatre Studies...wahrscheinlich der längstmögliche Kurstitel). Er besteht aus einer Vorlesung, drei Seminaren und einem Viewing pro Woche und ich koste es voll aus. In den Vorlesungen ist die Beteiligung natürlich aufs Zuhören beschränkt, aber der Rest ist sehr interaktiv und ich bin fasziniert von den Einblicken in anderer Leute Ansichten in Bezug auf Drama, Theater und Performance, sowie Szenographie. (Szenographie beinhaltet Bühne, Bühnenbild, Licht, Ton, Kostüm und viel anderes)
Ich habe besonders viel Spaß an Szenographie und basierend auf dem Viewing von letzter Woche kann ich den amerikanischen Künstler James Turrell jedem wärmestens empfehlen, der Interesse an Lichtkunst hat. Er ist unglaublich! Besonders seine 'skyspaces' sind von magischer Schönheit.
Ich habe es immer noch nicht fertig gebracht auf den Constitution Hill zu laufen, aber wer weiß, vielleicht nächstes Wochenende?
Zu guter Letzt habe ich in meinem Kurs jemanden gefunden (die zufällig auch fechtet), die mit mir auf die Suche nach einem Chor gehen wird. Ich fühle den Drang zu singen und ich glaube, meine Mitbewohner würden es wertschätzen, wenn ich es woanders als in der Küche täte. ^^
Oh, und das Wetter ist immer noch fabelhaft! (Kann mich mal jemand kneifen, ich muss am Träumen sein...)
